Bookmark #1 : Decision Making

I have not read a book, any books, a complete one for a long time. I have two storybooks on my bedside table, that are not finished. One is read less than half, and then I already moved on to the second book. Nothing quite profound I guess. Anyway, reading - I loved it, and I still love it. Simply because it gives me the power to explore, and basically to learn something new. In some motivational books that I have encountered all these years, I find peace in them. Sense of optimism and the can-do spirit.

Getting back to my post for today, I have NOT read this book, also, for quite some time. I used to flip through the content page of this book, whenever I'm feeling down, with the intention to find some articles that 'suits' my 'misery' at that point of time. I believe, by reading someone else's experience of the same problem might help me sort mine out. Hence, the new label in this blog, called 'bookmark'. I will start to quote any interesting piece from any books I feel worth to share.

As of now, I'm feeling a tad bit depress. Yes, you heard me. DEPRESSION is a big word. I wouldn't say I am, but almost there. Lately, anything associated with making decisions would cause dejection, demoralizing and discouragment. Life is all about making decisions. I am suck at making decisions. So basically, I suck. Or my life is. (of course I dont feel this way all the time. On the contrary, alhamdulillah I can't be more grateful for what I have. So, this is what we call a mood swing!). So now I am, flipping through this book with the faith that I would find something useful to ease the burden, as I did before. Or at least to guide me on how to unravel the complexities I currently face. Read on...

Source : Don't Be Sad
Author : Dr. Ayidh bin Abdullah Al-Qarni
Translated by : Noraine Abu (Sorry, it's in Malay language, will post the english version once I found the english version book, somewhere under my bed! ;) )

(obviously I'm not a good leader ;( )

Jika anda mempunyai pendapat
Putuskanlah dengan tegas
kerana sesungguhnya keraguan anda
akan melemahkan pendapat anda sendiri

*The End*

God willing~

The differences

I have to stop comparing my life with other people's lives! We are individually unique. The road I'm taking is NOT the road they are walking..So why the crucial comparison?

will only bring me heartache and ungrateful to God's blessings. Syukur..bersyukur..

I'M DIFFERENT, AND YOU ARE DIFFERENT.

STOP COMPARING!

FULLSTOP!

Wise words from David

I was in the office, going through my thesis when David knocked on my glass sliding door to say hello and asked how I'm doing. So I told him, I'll be having the last examination (he doesnt know what viva is btw) of my MPhil next wednesday. So he wished me luck and gave a wise advice (as far as I am concerned)...

Do not worry until the very last minute...and during the last minutes, there is no point worrying...

How very true...The way I understand it, do not worry at all...don't you think so? he he

My imagination

*why so often start a post with a sigh??*

Bridge of sighs in Cambridge

Unfortunately, I'm stranded in the room. The view outside my window is sooo tempting. I can imagine myself.....

wonder around the city centre
Tengok-tengok orang..buang masa and minum2..No..no, bukannye boley hang out at any cafes sipping hot chocolate pun.

Okay, I can always visit one of the boutiques and buy something nice
(for myself)
not in the mood to do this. That's surprising! Lately, memang amat berjimat cermat cik Jehan kite...Good..good..

Go to parkers piece with a good book in hand (and read it of course)
This would be a bliss! Oh yes...with oreo milk shake. You can never read in any parks in Malaysia. Erm..you can, provided you are prepared to be 'Black beauty'. hikhik Or maybe there are places that I'm not aware of. Hurmm

Or lepak at my favourite place near Magdalene bridge
Used to do this with Mr. Matthias..tapi now no point- he's not here anymore, and I cannot eat/drink.

Try out a new restaurant with the girls
Mane lagi tempat yang I tak pernah pergi ek?? Banyakk..tapi craving for Ikan bakar and air asam (or kuah asam??), since Ibu mentioned it last two days...Gulp..HELPP

So yes, I can imagine myself doing all mentioned above, except what I'm doing now - writing! Grrr...bilelah nak berkesudahan ni...Tapi I'm being really patient..

*Begin with the end in mind*

Holiday that is

Family Portrait...(back in the 50s)

Oh, when panick attacks and stress melanda, it's even harder to focus on what I should be doing (writing that is). Instead, duk cari entertainment lain pulak. So as I was browsing another blog, I found another 'distraction' to be obsessed with.

Seriously, it is fun! Check out this application. It's called Yearbook-Yourself. Here, you can visualize yourself until back to the 50s. Bermacam-macam style rambut yang ada. For the ladies, the hairstyles are still acceptable (and make sense!), but for the lads....OMG, undescribably hideous!!! LOL

So, I tried for myself and for each and every one in the family. They look seriously hilarious, but these are one of the best looks for them (imagine the not so good looking styles?), and so they are chosen to be captured as our family portrait.

Row 1 L-R : Bonda, Along, Angah
Row 2 L-R : Jehan, Abang, Azwan
of course, rambut paling cantik is for myself la kan....

Another set of the portrait cuz abang prefers his in the afro.

Madam Aloyah-Kuih-Lapis dan anak-anaknya; Hamidah - Rafidah - Qasidah
(hehe..please refer to Filem Tiga Abdul by P. Ramlee) - I love it!

So, try for yourself. Trust me, you will NOT look as good as you are today. Ceh, macam lawa je skrg ni ;)

Note:

I was afraid that Ibu will be too sensitive apabila melihat gambar arwah Azwan. But, how could I not put his picture in the FAMILY PORTRAIT kan? Aminnn................................

Redha..."Verily, if Allah loves a people, He makes them go through trials. Whoever is satisfied, for him is contentment, and whoever is angry, upon him is wrath.

My favourite thing(s)

Yes, it's obvious I was upset for the last few days...Many thanks to all who showed some concern in my current state and even more appreciative for the encouraging and motivating words. Pada orang yang lebih berpengalaman, I gain confidence in your words, as you have been there before me. To my friends who are in the same boat, thanks for standing by me and made me realize I'm, not facing this alone. I'm sure we will all get through this.

Okayyy...the initial plan was to NOT make the next few posts (or ever) sounds melancholic. I just hate the notion of being sad and hopeless! So let's spice things up a bit, OK.

One good thing I have picked up after watching this movie repeatedly when I was a child, was that everytime I feel sad, I'll try to reflect on the wonderful things in life (yup, sounds a bit cliche there), remember the sweet moments I've had before, or the many wonderful possibilities in the future. Of course, it does not work all the time and certainly the anger/worry/sadness/whatever won't ease in a split second, but more often than not, it helps. At least, my mind is bound to be guarded from negative thoughts.
Hence, for my own sake, I'll jot down a few of my favourite things...... ;))
*family n special ones are inclusive!!
1- A good night (or day) sleep
2- Moisturized skin
3- Calling ibu (along angah abang and atok follow the queue)
4- Mikayo's pictures (latest obsession) I'll be obsessed with his head once I can be near him
5- Asraf and his wake up call (rather annoying actually, but I wanted him to) *chuckles*
6- Sunny day (not applicable in malaysia, cuz everyday is sunny)
7- Receiving Gifts (who doesn't include this??) and buying gifts..i loike!
8- Milo, Chocolates, Hot chocolate, as for today caramel frappucino
9- Colourful sticky notes, colourful pens
10- Singing, music, instruments
11- Gossips (yang baik2 saje..uhuk uhuk!)
12- Handbags! (oh yes, more than any other accessories)
13- Fragrance
15- Shop and window shop
16- TV of course
17- Dwelling in my future fantasies..kids, getting rich, travelling, living abroad (not for long!) and spending lavishly for me familia
18- Comedy love stories
19- Kids
20- Travelling (Time and financially affordable)
21- Desserts!
22- Tudung putih (almost everyday)
23- Collecting books (not neccessarily read them, I should, but I love the view of books arranged on the shelves)
24- Anything with Cheese (except the kind of chesse that has maggots on it)
25- Changing desktop wallpapers
26- Get together with the girls (and makan2 or minum2)
27- NO lab meeting! eheh
28- Watch movie/TV series repeatingly
29- Buying toiletries
30- Eyeliner, mascara, blusher and lipstick - a MUST
31- Inspirational quotes
32- Flat tummy - huh??
33- My ring and necklace (the one I'm currently wearing)
36- Beautiful people (i have my own definition..personality+style+++)
37- Cathing up with ol frens (cik oda, layana, winie, aliyya n d rest!)
38- Working in the lab (without tension and time pressure..my own sweet time okeh! if only..)
39- Thinking of future kids' names (haha..ive got two names in my mind) nope, not getting married anytime soon..just for the fun of it. Trust me, when the time comes, I'll probably have no idea at all. Why not make a list of choice now? Plus, it's fun! *gigles*

The list can go on....but this is enough for now. I am already smiling (and sleepy) now. 5am, sudah terang, thinking of jogging this morning. Tengoklah. So peeps, do this. List down your favourite things.

Sebagai penutup, enjoy the clip I attached below. It's one of my favourite songs, ever..as a kid and as I am now. Last time, when I tried to memories the wordings, I did not think they are significant to me, as we don't have snow in malaysia and ponnies or mittens. But I can imagine those things and I simply loving them too.

Oh yes, managed to find a clip with lyrics. How handy. Time I kecik-kecik dulu, kene pause the video tape a few times to pen down the wordings. Sometimes we (with my sis) were just guessing, as long as they sound the same. Hehe Let's sing together.
*i know the wordings by heart in case you're wondering ;)
Enjoy

Be free from worry and fear

Easy said than done. But I can keep reminding myself that whatever hardship may be, it is only a matter of days before better times arrive.

At-Tanookhi once said
"Be calm, for many have come before you who have trodden upon this path."

Meaning, they survived!! Tapi takmaula survive asal-boley! Aim higher Miss J..

Soooo tired and sleepy rite now. Rest, and start over.

Reminder : There's more to life than work! Tenang.....

Convert a lemon into a sweet drink

It is officially my worst day in cambridge to date!

Am not going to narrate on what actually happened, but obviously it was a dreadful one. First thing, terima dengan hati terbuka, listen and learn! Find your strength and ask for comfort from God. Most importantly at time like this, I need a good network of support and of course, "the girls" filled in the part. Thank you to Kak Ina and K.Zetty for lending your ears....Such a relief to be able to talk about it. Asraf pun penat dengan his upcoming exams, will talk to him later...Oh yes, and the delicous dinner as well ;)

Okayy, jgn bazirkan energy kepada perkara yang kurang best and menyedihkan or de-motivating!!! I will sleep now, and start with greater passion and enthusiasm tomorrow!!!

Words of wisdom worth sharing...

~If you are afflicted with a misfortune, look on the bright side. If someone were to hand you a glass full of squeezed lemons, add to it a handful of sugar. And if someone gives you a snake as a gift, keep its precious skin and leave the rest~

Ingatan buat diri

Remember...

"When you wake up in the morning, do not expect to see the evening - live as though today is all that you have. Yesterday has passed with its good and evil, while tomorrow has not yet arrived"
